Buffaloes Make History With Homecoming Victory Over Langston University
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas Baptist College Buffaloes made history Saturday afternoon at Quigley Stadium, earning a 24-9 Homecoming victory over Langston University on September 26, 2026.
The victory marks the first time Arkansas Baptist College has defeated Langston University, giving the Buffaloes a memorable Homecoming celebration in front of their home crowd.
Arkansas Baptist finished the afternoon with 343 total yards of offense, including 290 rushing yards and three total touchdowns. The Buffaloes also recorded 20 first downs while averaging 6.4 yards per play.
Buffaloes Take Control After Halftime
Langston entered halftime holding a 9-3 advantage, but the Buffaloes completely changed the momentum coming out of the locker room.
Arkansas Baptist opened the second half with an 87-yard touchdown drive, followed by a 67-yard touchdown drive later in the quarter. The Buffaloes added another touchdown on a 75-yard fourth-quarter drive to close out the scoring and secure the historic victory.
Running back Tavien Rupert provided a major spark for the Buffaloes, rushing for 82 yards and a touchdown, including a 20-yard scoring run.
Kawann Johnson added 67 rushing yards, while Jayden Young contributed 68 rushing yards and completed 7 of 14 passes for 53 yards and a touchdown.
Through the air, Young connected with Leon Elloie for a 24-yard touchdown, helping Arkansas Baptist build its lead during the second half.
Defense Shuts Down Langston
While the Buffaloes' offense found its rhythm, the Arkansas Baptist defense dominated the second half.
After allowing nine points in the first half, the Buffaloes held Langston scoreless after halftime and limited the Lions to just 190 total yards for the game. Langston finished with 137 rushing yards and only 53 passing yards.
The Buffalo defense recorded three sacks, two interceptions, six tackles for loss and a forced fumble.
Vernon Grant led the Buffaloes with nine tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack. Antonio Taylor Jr. added seven tackles, while Darrell Williams recorded six tackles and a tackle for loss.
The Buffaloes also came up with two key interceptions. Brenden Ward recorded one interception, while Lemond Smith added another to help shut down Langston's passing attack.
A Historic Homecoming
The 24-9 victory gives Arkansas Baptist College a Homecoming win that will be remembered for years to come.
After trailing 9-3 at halftime, the Buffaloes responded by scoring 21 unanswered points after the break, with the offense controlling the ground game and the defense refusing to allow Langston back into the contest.
Kicker Joshua Bravo also contributed to the victory, connecting on a 40-yard field goal and converting all three extra-point attempts.
Next Up: Texas Wesleyan
With the historic Homecoming victory behind them, the Buffaloes now turn their attention to their next Sooner Athletic Conference match up.
Arkansas Baptist will face Texas Wesleyan University on Saturday, October 3 at 2:00 PM at Quigley Stadium on the campus of Little Rock Central High School.
The Buffaloes will look to improve their Sooner Athletic Conference record to 3-1 as they continue their 2026 campaign.
