Buffaloes Set for Saturday Night Showdown With Langston University
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas Baptist College Buffaloes return home this Saturday, September 26, for another important Sooner Athletic Conference match up as they welcome the Langston University Lions to Little Rock.
Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. at Quigley Stadium on the campus of Historic Little Rock Central High School.
The Buffaloes enter Saturday's contest looking to bounce back from a hard-fought 35-28 setback against Nelson University last Saturday in Waxahachie, Texas, while continuing their push in conference play. The Buffaloes will look to improve to 2-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Buffaloes Show Fight Against Nelson
Arkansas Baptist battled Nelson down to the final seconds last Saturday, putting together a strong second-half comeback before Nelson scored the go-ahead touchdown with just five seconds remaining.
The Buffaloes finished the night with 290 total yards, including an impressive 241 yards rushing on 45 attempts. Arkansas Baptist averaged 5.4 yards per carry and recorded 18 first downs.
While the Buffalo offense made plays throughout the night, the Buffalo defense was tough from start to finish, creating two major momentum-changing plays that helped spark the comeback.
The Buffaloes recorded two fumble recoveries, with both resulting in touchdowns.
Dennis Lavigne provided the first defensive score, scooping up a fumble and racing 35 yards for a touchdown. Later in the game, Arien Johnson Jr. came up with another huge defensive play, recovering a fumble and taking it 79 yards to the end zone for another Buffalo touchdown.
The two defensive touchdowns gave Arkansas Baptist a major spark and helped pull the Buffaloes back into the contest.
On the ground, Darryl Searcy Jr. opened the scoring with a 22-yard touchdown run, while Ingram Battles added an 18-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Despite the loss, the Buffaloes demonstrated their ability to compete on the road, create turnovers and make adjustments throughout the game. The defensive effort will be an important factor as Arkansas Baptist prepares for another tough SAC opponent this Saturday.
Langston Comes to Little Rock After High-Scoring Win
Langston University enters the matchup following a 53-34 victory over Texas College on September 19.
The Lions produced 486 total yards, including 287 passing yards and 199 rushing yards, while converting 7-of-12 third downs. Langston also controlled the clock for 35:09 and finished with 30 first downs.
Quarterback Steele Wasel turned in a big performance, completing 12 of 20 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Charles Carter added 113 rushing yards and a touchdown on 22 carries, while receiver Roland Vera recorded 112 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Langston's offense found another gear late, scoring 34 second-half points against Texas College. The Lions scored twice in the final 5:35 to pull away from a Texas College team that had closed the gap to 39-34.
A Conference Battle Under the Lights
Saturday's match up brings another opportunity for the Buffaloes to make a statement in conference play.
Arkansas Baptist will look to build on the positives from last week's performance, particularly the physical play of the Buffalo defense and its ability to create turnovers and turn those opportunities into points.
The stage is set.
