Mens basketball got a hard fought victory at home Thursday night over a good Northwest Mississippi Team. The Buffaloes were able to revenge a November loss to the Rangers by defeating them 97-91. While students were away for the holiday, the fans, in attendance, got a chance to see a fast paced basketball game. With both teams getting its share of points off of transition and quick shots, the Buffaloes strong start produced an early lead that led to a 54-46 Halftime advantage.
"Freshmen "DJ" Dennis Reed had his best game of the season tonight. His efforts on both ends really set the tone", said Assistant coach Ronald Talley. The Buffaloes managed to maintain the lead from start to finish. The fast action of the game was on pace to reach the century mark. England, Arkansas native DJ Reed scored a team high 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Four other Buffaloes finished the game in double figures. Sophomore James Parker had 18, Donald "DJ" Teague had 10 points and 7 rebounds, Fred Albright had 14, and Elijah Young finished with 10. Freshman PG Deonta Thomas also had a solid perfomance with 8 points, 3 rebounds, and team high 8 assists.
Head Coach Charles Ripley fealt that his team's solid performance was due to team getting in alot of work and good focus in practice. Rip said, "With school being out and students away on break, presented an opportunity, for less distractions, to getting back to our strenghts".
